Dr. Albert Edward Webster had completed forty-three years of rerviee as a dental teacher when he passed away on November 5, 1936. He was one of the pioneer teachers in the School of Dentistry of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario which, in 19S5, became the Faculty of Dentistry of the Univer ity of Toronto. He was one of the most picturesque figures among dental educationists and one of the most beloved. His whole life was devoted to the development of dental science and to the improvement of teaching methods.
Born at Creemore, Ontario, in 1867, Albert Webster received his early education there, and later attended Collingwood Collegiate Institute at the Bradford Model School. After teaching public school for two years, he commenced he professional studies at the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, and graduated in 1895. The following year he attended the School of Dentistry at Toronto. He later returned to Chicago and completed studies at the Bush Medical College, receiving the degree of M.D. Dr. Webster never intended to practice medicen but the knowledge acquired in several of the basic sciences ;,;&e invaluable to his in his chosen profession.
While carrying on the private practice of Dentistry ia for some years after his graduation,
Toronto/ Dr. Webster devoted part time to teaching in the School of Dentistry. After holding various positions, he «was appointed Professor of Operative Dentistry in 1906, which chair he filled until his retirement. He also served as Dean of the Faculty for eight years.

After forty-threeyears of service, Dr. A.E. Webster, Pro fessor of Operative Dentistry in the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Toronto has handed in his resignation to take effect June 30th, 1936. It is expected the University will honour him by appointing him Professor Emeritus. He began his dental teaching as Demonstrator in Dental Technique and Prosthetic Dentistry in 1894 in the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, and became also Demonstrator in Operative Dentistry
in 1895. As Professor of Orthodontia he served from 1899 until then
1906. He was/appointed Professor of Operative Dentistry, which Chair he has held for thirty years. He acted as Dean of the Faculty from 1915 to 1923, when he was made Honorary Dean, enabling him to devote his undivided attention to teaching and research.

He spent two years teaching school, when his interest in the profession of Dentistry led him to enrol in the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, which at that time was a department of Lake Forest University. Upon his graduation in 1893 he returned to Canada and continued his studies at the School of Dentistry of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, from which school he graduated in 1894. Subsequently he returned to Chicago and graduated from Rush Medical College.
Dr. Webster engaged in dental practice in Collingwood. for some years and in 1900 opened an office in Toronto,
